Brother 2 Brother: Music & Lyrics

Lookin' for Texas

(Brother 2 Brother)
Lyrics by Mike Leubner Vocals: Mike Leubner
Well he flew down to Houston Super Bowl XXXVIII
Thought he’d check out Texas
See why it’s so great
He’d seen all the westerns on cable TV
And he wondered if that’s how it would really be
Then he jumped into a cab and away he went
To see how a cowboy’s day is spent

As they drove into town he thought “Big whup, wow!!”
No tumbleweed, no cowboy, not even a cow
There’s nothing new here
Seen this all before
A whole lot of traffic and store after store
So he told cabbie “Pull it over here”
And he went into the bar to get himself a beer

Well the bartender worked for minimum wage
But he spoke with the wisdom that comes with age
“Where’s the desert and mountains?” the visitor asked
He’d seen it in the movies not very long past
Then the barkeep said “Son” as he drank his Dos X’s
Don’t go to Houston if you’re lookin’ for Texas

If you’re lookin’ for Texas you’re in the wrong place
Just another big city for the human race
The only horses here are under the hood
Farther west I’d go if only I could
Then he told him again as he drank his Dos X’s
Don’t go to Houston if you’re lookin’ for Texas

Now don’t get me wrong Houston needs no pity
Why, after all, it’s the fourth largest city
Like Chicago, Los Angeles, or even New York
It has professional teams for every sport
But I’m telling you son as I drink my Dos X’s
Don’t go to Houston if you’re lookin’ for Texas

Go to New Braunfels, or Boerne, Luckenbach
Hell, even Magnolia!!
